As I posted in a previous thread, I went to a friends funeral on Friday( I'll call him Peter). It was my first time back to a KH in years. As I walked in I overheard a "sister" telling her friend that she had to come straight from work and that's why she was wearing pants and that she hoped no one would think that she was "wordly". I wanted to tell her that there are worst thing in life that been thought of as wordly but out of respect for the family I kept my mouth shut.
I sat down at the back and the talk started. They spent about 2 minutes talking about Peter and 15 minutes preaching about how you must get your life right with Jehovah so that you can live on paradise earth. They mocked the churches for giving their members a heavenly hope, sang (if you can call it that) an awful song. The whole thing was over in 20 minutes.
An friend of mine who has never been a JW commented about how strange the whole thing was.
After the service I went with my friend, Peter's sister, back to their house for tea. At least there were many non-jw's and many people were talking about the fond memories they had of Peter. His wife and children were comforted by many friends.
At the house some well meaning jw told me that I should really start getting my life right with Jehovah. I told her that it was right with him and that I did not have to go to meetings for that.
Funerals are never a pleasant experience but a jw funeral is just aweful.

Poem from dub friend.
by searchingforfriends ini got this in an e-mail from a childhood friend that is still an active jw.
i found it to be very upsetting and was wondering if anyone else gets the kind of e-mail forwards from friends/family that are still in?
and how you handle it.

So according to the author of this rubbish, all non-jw men lose their jobs, hit their pregnant wives, are lazy and have HIV! Wow what a load of utter rubbish. This poem if you can call it that is the worse piece of mind controll crap I've ever seen. I cannot believe how angry reading this has made me.
How many stories of abuse have we read on this forum? Women that had to flee their JW husbands because of everything this witness accuses "wordly" men to be.

What Was The Silliest "Offense" That You Were Counseled For?
by minimus inwhen i was a teenager, i was told by an elder that because i smiled a lot and was known for my good sense of humor, that i should come across as "more serious".
so before i was appointed a ms, while in my late teens, i transformed myself into a much more "serious" brother.. were you ever told that you needed to work on something that you knew was stoopid?.

I was counseled for greeting an MS with a handshake at an assembly. I was told that it was physical contact with the oppiste sex and not appropriate for a single sister.

I have to go to a JW funeral
by Mrs Smith ina very good friend of mine's brother passed away yesterday.
the funeral is on friday and i really feel i need to be there for my friend.
she lives out of town and does not have many friends here that can be with her in her time of need.

Thanks Boo.
Yes, that is what worries me. That some idiot over zealous JW decides that it's the perfect time to talk to me. We all know that most of them do not know what is apropriate behaviour.
But the jw's won't think that at all. Well the overlords anyway. They will try to turn this tragic and painful time into a shot at selling more books.
But as I said this friend of mine knows that I haven't been to any meetings in years and am not interested in going back but she has chosen to ignore that and still be my friend. So I'll be there for her and will deal with the others if I have to. Even if it means making all the right JW noises to get them off my back. His funeral is not the time for me to make a stand against the JWs.

JW Youths - Living "Double Lives"
by BBOARD ini grew up around very hypocritical jw youth.
many of whom i now know at 20 were never living up to the lie they put out ... stupid me i was.
here i stand now because of it - i am sure most of you here being ex-jw's know this very familiar situation.
-
Mrs Smith
I don't blame the youth for living a double life. I know it's the only thing that kept me sane as a JW teen. All my JW friends were doing the same thing at some level. We were drinking and partying hard. We didn't steal or do drugs but there was a lot of sexual "misconduct" going on. It's normal for teens to go through this, it's abnormal for a religion to try and supress what is total natural behaviour for that age group.

What's wrong with the WTBS in a nushell.
by JeffT ini realized the other morning that it was twenty years ago that i started my exit.
at the spring 1988 circuit assembly (i think it was in february or march) they absolutely hammered on the point that higher ed was a waste of time.
armageddon was going to happen any day now and there was no point in preparing for life in system that was about to end.
